President Cyril Ramaphosa said that more than 200 Nelson Mandela Bay residents left displaced after devastating floods wreaked havoc in Kariega over the weekend will receive temporary housing within 30 days.

The president, joined by Mayor Gary van Niekerk and several ministers, visited the disaster-stricken Eastern Cape metro on Friday afternoon.

Speaking to the residents of Tiryville, Kariega, who have been sheltering at a nearby church hall following concerns of a dam wall collapse near their homes due to the floods, Ramaphosa said they could expect to be at their new dwellings by early next month.
