- Three people were killed inside a homestead in Muden on Thursday, shortly after voting in the early morning hours.
- A woman was also injured in the incident and was rushed to the hospital.
- In a separate incident in Umgungundlovu, a 40-year-old man was shot and killed inside a vehicle not far from a voting station at Swayimana High School.
Three people were killed in the Muden area, outside Greytown in KwaZulu-Natal, shortly after finally voting in the early hours of Thursday morning.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said reports indicated that three men and three women had gone to a homestead that doubles up as a spaza shop when they were ambushed by a group of assailants.
“Three men, aged 22, 24 and 25, were declared dead at the scene. One woman was injured and rushed to hospital, whereas two other women escaped unharmed.
“Police investigations have thus far revealed that the vehicle which the victims were travelling in was reported stolen in Johannesburg,” said Netshiunda.

In a separate incident, a 40-year-old man was shot and killed inside a vehicle not far from a voting station at Swayimana High School in the Umgungundlovu district, on Wednesday evening.
Netshiunda said the deceased was seated inside his vehicle with another man when an assailant got out of a white VW Polo parked in front of them, allegedly armed with a rifle, and opened fire.

“One occupant of the vehicle was declared deceased at the scene while the other one managed to escape unharmed,” said Netshiunda.
The assailants from both incidents are unknown at this stage, and the motives for the killings have not yet been established.
Authorities urge anyone with information regarding either of the incidents to report to their nearest police station.
